Just me again: As we approach the weekend I’ve got a couple other items to mention.
Over the last number of years an “open” ladies golf night has been created at most facilities around Southern Alberta. It is designed to be a fun night with friends with score and competition not playing as big a role as perhaps a glass of wine at the end of it. This has been very successful and again this season we have over 80 ladies signed up and raring to go.
Having said that, the evolution of these types of groups is that some that play want to eventually take the game a little more seriously and compete against the golf course and other players. A phrase that I have worn out already in my time is that I want to provide people more reasons to be here than not to be here.
With this in mind we are reaching out to our lady members as well as our Tuesday open night participants to see if there would be some interest in creating a separate series of nights for players looking for a little more. I am always hesitant to label it a “league” or a “competition” as that sometimes scares people away. What it would provide is an opportunity to learn a little more about the game and meet some new people. Our initial thoughts is that it would be a weekday evening and would start in tee times at about 5:30 or 6:00 p.m.
Please let me know or contact Cam in the golf shop and we will evaluate the response and then go from there.
I'd like to also take this opportunity to send out a note of congratulations to Mr. Cliff Stroh. Cliff who is approaching 80 years of age went out this week and made 18 straight pars to shoot 70. The great Nic Faldo describes one of his great career accomplishments as making 18 straight pars on a Sunday to win the British Open. Unfortunately there is no claret jug for Mr. Stroh but in fairness Nic Faldo was 32 when he did it, not 80. Congrats Cliff on this great score.
