Hello folks: With just under a month to go in the 2018 golf season I wanted to touch base and bring you up to speed on a few things. Our last day of play is scheduled for Sunday, October 14th. Dave and his team will then get the pre-winter treatment on the putting greens and begin tarping them for the off season.
Our food and beverage operation will also start to wind down a wee bit as traffic and daylight taper off. The beverage cart will remain on course Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays as long as mother nature cooperates and we’ve got play. The half way house will also remain open on high traffic days.
While we are on the topic of food and beverage I would like to thank Lori and her team as well as Tammy and the girls up front for doing a great job. Coming into this position it is fair to say that I have the least experience in food and beverage management and there is no question that I have much to learn. For those of you that have experienced a service level less than what you have had in the past I apologize and take full responsibility. I have spent the season largely watching the operation and I will be using this offseason to continue to learn and implement some minor changes that will certainly help in this department. I think the team of people we have in the clubhouse is great and it is my job to support them and improve our consistency and efficiency.
Cam and Matt will be heading to Kananaskis on October 1st and 2nd for the annual Head Pro Assistant Pro golf tournament. I hope the weather holds so they can enjoy the rebuilt mountain beauty that is Kananaskis. During those two days you may see a not-so-young rookie (me) in the golf shop helping out. Perhaps I'll see if Paul Lowe is available as well and we can just pretend it’s 1991 all over again.
The third week in October we will be in Edmonton for a couple days for the annual buying show and PGA business conference. It’s a good chance to meet with key staff from clubs across the province and compare notes as well as looking at merchandise for the golf shop next year. Looking forward towards Christmas the golf shop will remain open to assist you with any holiday purchases. In addition to looking after the shop we will also be aggressively getting out into the community to build relationships for sponsorship, corporate memberships and events. I think it is very important to keep "spreading the web" and let our community know that we are here and that we want them to come enjoy this great facility.
Lastly I want to thank all of you for giving me an opportunity to work for you at this great club. I fully understand the emotions that were involved for the membership with the changes that occurred at the end of last season. The game of golf is inherently personal and the extension of that is always the course, club and personnel involved in running it. When it happens that some key people leave, it takes a toll. I am grateful that everyone seemed to move past those challenges and just got back to playing the game and enjoying the club with their friends. We will continue to work as a team to get better and provide the best experience here at the Lake.
