I write this fairly late at night after just getting home from the club but by the time you read it I am hopeful you are just getting ready for your morning round and all is good.
About 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon we started to see some lights flickering in the clubhouse and pro shop as power came and went. It wasn’t anything I had seen before but thankfully I was able to get ahold of Jeff Craddock who is a member and an electrician for Mikado electric. Jeff came down to the course right away and quickly diagnosed that our issue was likely with the City of Lethbridge line that came into our main transformer. I contacted the City and I must say they were fantastic in dealing with the situation.
They brought a huge portable generator which allowed us to get power back to the clubhouse by about 7 p.m. or so and keep all of our coolers and freezers doing what they need to do. The City was able to diagnose the exact problem which is a faulty line which is under the walking path on South Parkside Drive up toward Mayor Magrath.
They are confident they will be able to dig up the line and fix it through the night but in the meantime there is no power going to the pump house or the halfway house. I wanted to send this out tonight to let you know that there will likely be no irrigation on the golf course through the night and the halfway house will not open first thing tomorrow as we want to make sure we have predictable power to it before we open the doors.
If all goes well I am sure we will be back to normal operation by tomorrow afternoon. It was a very educational day for me and I would like to thank Jeff Craddock and the City of Lethbridge for jumping to our aid to get this looked after with minimal disruption. I would also like to congratulate John Lebeau as his son Kyle and his wife welcomed a baby girl into their world today. Everyone is healthy and happy. When I let John know about the power issue and how that was possibly going to effect the irrigation system he was on his way to the course immediately to help out and make sure the irrigation system wouldn’t kick in and cause an damage when the full power was restored.
Thanks to all involved – hopefully it is just a blip on the screen and we’ll settle back in to normal days. Have a good night.
