Good morning:   We are back from our trek to Waterton yesterday.  Thirty four members joined us and it was a great day to enjoy the sun and the always-great views.

We’re hosting the Senior Men's open tomorrow.  There is still some room left but let us know today if you can - we'd love to have you.

I don’t want to rush time away but we've got another big event coming up beginning August 4th.  The ladies classic is ready to go and I encourage all the ladies to get their name in and bring a friend.  It is always a great event thanks to the countless hours put in by our ladies group from signs to sponsorships, etc.  We're really going to try to build this event back up over the next few years so hopefully we can get a good turnout for this year's.

On that note, thanks you everyone who came out last Friday for Elsie McGrath's celebration.  I found it really interesting to hear all the stories about her time spent here with friends and just how much this place and those people meant to her.  It was also great to meet her kids and get to know them and their stories of their mom.  Andrea sent me a note yesterday that she wanted me to share with the membership.  Enjoy the read and the rest of your week.

To the Henderson Lake Golf Club Ladies

I just wanted to say a few things to you all regarding my mom Elsie, things I wasn’t able to verbalize on Friday at the reception. So many people came up to me there to say such kinds words about mom.
She was a part of Henderson for more than fifty years, and it was her second home. At this club she showed not only how passionate she was about golf, but also how much she valued her friendships with you all. I’ve known some of you more ‘seasoned’ ladies for years, and it was really nice to see you again. And, it was so wonderful to hear from some of the younger members that mom was a person who sought them out and made them feel welcome. Elsie could start up a conversation with anyone, and make them feel included. She loved this club and its members, and supported HLGC however she could. At the memorial service, I wanted to keep a happy picture of mom in my mind, and Dave Nelson’s memo from last week helped me find one – I could imagine her roaring by in her cart, visor down, in her rain gear, while you all huddled inside waiting out the rain and bad weather. I can still see that in my mind, and it makes me smile. That was mom!
 
I’m so pleased that Dave and the staff of Henderson are going to put mom’s Yamaha to good use as the Marshal’s cart. It tickles me to know her cart will still be traveling the fairways at her beloved course, with mom riding along in spirit. What a wonderful way to be remembered.
 
Mom didn’t care to keep a spotless house or worry much about those mundane chores we all have waiting for us at home, if she could be golfing instead, that’s what she’d do. And looking back, now that she’s gone, I’m so glad she was able to spend the time doing what she loved. It’s a lesson I’ll try to remember for myself.
