Another great day at the Lake. It was a very busy weekend which saw almost 200 people come out for our Mother’s day brunch buffet in addition to 400 plus rounds of golf over the 2 days. Thanks to Lori, Cody and Merle in the kitchen and Tammy and her crew up front for looking after all of our customers so well. Lori has now indicated that she is ok to not see an eggs benny until October after poaching over 225 eggs on Sunday.
The course continues to green up and overall is in great health. Dave and his irrigation specialist continues to fine tune the new pumps and last night was the first “full" watering cycle of the season and it worked beautifully. For those that don't know, the benefits of these new variable speed pumps is two fold. The old pump had to run 24 hours a day whether there was water being applied or not which used a tremendous amount of energy. These new pumps only kick in when pressure is required so we are expecting to see smaller electric bills.
The second benefit is that when they do power up, we now have the ability to do the required watering in three or four less hours per night. The result will hopefully be much less water on the surface in the morning as it will have had a few hours to properly infiltrate the soil before players head out.
As most of you have seen already the course is very green and healthy and beginning this week we will be lowering the green height which will improve the consistent roll on your putts. The new height will be maintained through the end of June at which time they will be sped up a little bit more through to the end of August. In addition the crew has been diligently treating Elm scale on a bunch of our trees with very good results and the hedge along the South edge of the property is getting cleaned up nicely.
The new tee box construction and sodding went very well and we are confident they will be put into play early in July.
The Chinook classic goes this weekend and there are spots available so by all means throw your name in at the golf shop if you like.
